Building/structure dates: 1824 initial construction
Significance: This substantial brick and stone structure is situated in a wide creek valley surrounded by rolling hills in the rich farming area of western Rowan County. Bearing the name of Dr. Samuel Kerr, it was in existence in 1824, and is one of the few brick, antebellum grist mills in the state. Originally powered by a water wheel, then a steam engine, and finally by a diesel engine; operations finally ceased in the mid-1930s...
